Ukitake knows that the wait could be up to half an hour for the young man (with the same hair color as his own, that was something he might have paid more attention to were he more lucid) to arrive, so when Allen ends the feed, the shinigami manages to roll onto his back to allow breaths to come easier, occupying himself with the others that are expressing concern in the intervening time.

It is an odd double-standard in how he tries to cover up his own state of distress, feeling guilty about the concern others felt when he would have been one of those people himself had it been someone else who appeared ill, but Ukitake has always been among the selfless individuals, in his own world and in this one.

He was taking this one boy's assistance out of necessity, and even then Ukitake wonders if he shouldn't have just called Byakuya privately when he could tell his condition was poor and worsening. At any rate, he plans to thank the boy properly when he has had a chance to recover.

He hears his name through the crowd of people about, and Ukitake realizes that in his condition, his voice will not carry enough for Allen to be able to hear him. He already saw he does not have the energy to walk, so the elder man utilizes the last option that immediately presents itself.

In Soul Society, any shinigami would be able to find him by his reiatsu alone, but this boy is more than likely a human and thus probably will not be able to trace that signature of spiritual pressure.

He opts for a less-than-subtle approach. His reiatsu spikes abruptly, the sudden concentration of spiritual pressure from his body causing to glow with a silhouette of light.

Ukitake decided he'd apologize to these villagers for unsettling them later, trick of the gods or not.
