[The walk here was annoying; having B bound, gagged, and blinded hasn't done much to help their trek, and his annoyance spikes when Mello sees that L isn't the only one here.

And Near, of all people. It's slightly insulting that L wouldn't ask only Mello to be present for whatever is about to happen. He pauses for a moment as his eyes take in the sight of his rival. First time Mello's seeing him here, in the flesh. T'ch.

The gorilla--Mello only acknowledges it briefly. If no one else seems unnerved, he's not going to stress it. Obviously, L (and Near) would be alarmed if there were a dangerous animal around. So he's going to assume there's something to that.
