[Of course - the words have barely even left Itachi's mouth and the answer is already there. Of course, of course, no. Sasuke did not come here to be turned away. Sasuke did not come here to ask for Itachi's attention, that he might say, "no." No, Itachi is the one who called him, so at the very least he owes him this.
Just - to do it quickly. To get it over with, like pulling a bandage off an open wound. Just take it, in one yank, and if it bleeds at least it will be done with. At least once it is done, you can rebuild. Nurse the wounds which are left behind. At least you are not trapped, waiting, being picked apart slow piece by piece. Flayed by inches.
No, he can't. He absolutely cannot do that. It would eat him alive, the waiting. To have to watch, from now on, every glance and wonder - what does this one mean? When he looks out the corner of his eye like that, what does it signify? What was that tilt of the eyebrow, that noise which might be a scoff or a snort or the suppression of a chuckle, which is it and what does it say, what is he thinking, right now? No - let him know now. At least give him that, so he might come to terms with it.
The anxious, awful moment of waiting. His fingers twitch. Tap.]
You. [Tap, taptap, tap.] Called me.
[But saying it, Sasuke senses that he might have come regardless, whether Itachi called him or not. Looking for judgement. Looking for - Itachi to see him as he is. Unarmed, his sword left by his bed. Still half-asleep. Still oversensitive and shaky and not-quite-sure on his feet, still hazy with the heat of anger and mortification and - and desire as well. Shame curdles in his gut, thinking of this, but yes.
Yes.
He should not have. No, he should not have. And it isn't as though he meant to. It's not as though he thought that he would do this.
It is only that he has wanted so much (he has wanted it, terrible as it is he has) to trust Itachi. To give Itachi pieces of himself, like one might give a token of devotion. In the Academy, all the time, the girls would... hand him things. Trinkets, mostly, but they were meant to mean something else. To mean feelings. Sasuke has no patience for symbolism, and so he can only give his emotions as they are. His anger. His uncertainty. His vulnerability and desire. He can neither speak of these things, nor show them with clever small gestures. He can only stand here and feel so strongly that perhaps Itachi can just sense it, bleeding off him. Like the heat that pours out from a fire.
He has wanted Itachi to see this. His moment of weakness. Wanted to give it up to him, as proof of his willingness. As proof that he wants...]
You called me.
Rather than wasting my time. [Taptap - tap. (Realization has knocked his rhythmn off balance.)] You should tell me what was so pressing.
