[ Shinjuku. A city of cracked concrete and walls stained with graffiti and old blood. In the distance, the Tokyo Settlement gleams on the horizon mockingly, built up high so that the inhabitants of this conquered nation will always see it, and be reminded.
It was in Shinjuku that Lelouch was reborn, that he truly saw the world for what it is and was given the power to remake it. When C.C. had grasped his hand and opened up his eyes.
This dream is a strange blurring of memory and anxiety, where events that did happen collide with events that happened in other places, other times, or that never happened at all except in his deepest fears. He is Zero, today. The Black Knights are defending Shinjuku's citizens. Yet, Lelouch is not dressed as Zero - he's wearing his Britannian school uniform, and he is bereft of a Knightmare, walking on the ground with only a communicator to contact the Black Knights that are currently mobilized. If he lets them find out he's Zero, this Britannian youth with a childish grudge and too much fire in his eyes, this will all fall apart.
Gunfire beats a tattoo in the distance. Britannian troops are descending on Shinjuku, massacring all the people they find as they search for him and C.C. But C.C. isn't here. It's only Lelouch, and his Geass, against Britannia, and the Black Knights can't be allowed to find him and help him directly.
It's like playing chess with only half the pieces. Lelouch grits his teeth as he shelters for a minute in an abandoned shop, the floor coated in dusty glass shards left from the windows blowing in during a raid.
His communicator crackles. Zero. It's Kallen. Orders?
Not only that, he has no visual reference. He's fighting blind. "Your position, Q-1," he says. "Where are you?"
Three klicks north of their main encampment. They're trying to break into the subway lines.
"Collapse the old tunnels, if you can. If Tamaki's squad is within a kilometer, regroup with them. You're in charge of them until I contact you again."
But - She catches herself. Hai. Q-1 out.
Lelouch is alone, while the world is being shot to pieces around him. It's almost like old times. ]
[[ OOC: Anything described exclusively from Lelouch's POV (mostly the second and third paragraphs) is not known to anyone entering the dream. ]]
