"Gojyo.... You can't mean that." There was a distinctly plaintive note to his voice; Gai wanted to be calm, to soothe Gojyo, to try and smooth over the hurt that they obviously both felt. Being shoved away like this, so abruptly.... It was far worse than the initial, physical shove had been. It was as though Kakashi were ordering him off his property. It just.... it wasn't right. This sort of thing just wasn't done. Did he really....?

(Was that it, then? Was Gojyo tossing him aside without even a thought for what they had been through together? What they had been to each other? It felt as though a teammate were rejecting him after being genjutsu'd. Their senses were being betrayed, their mind was being betrayed, all at once, and yet Gojyo sprang immediately to strike at the heart.... It hurt. He doubted that Gojyo meant to be cruel, but.... it hurt. And it always would, no matter how thick Gai's skin might be, no matter how hard his head.)

"You can't...." Gai sighed and moved forward in spite of Gojyo's order, reached out to put a hand on Gojyo's shoulder. To stop him? To get his attention? Just to reach out and touch him, for some human contact? He didn't even know. All he knew was that the desire for some closeness was a powerful one. "There was a together, Gojyo. We had something." Had, have, could have had, could have.... He wasn't sure what the right word was for this, only that he couldn't help but wish very much for the latter, in spite of everything else. His own nudity seemed to be quite forgotten, even with Gojyo moving to get dressed himself. "Running away won't solve anything! This.... you're not doing yourself any favors. Or me."

Gojyo didn't deserve this. Any of this. And he didn't deserve to be alone, either.... If he wasn't going to stay for Gai's sake, Gai wished that he would at least stop for his own. Just because they had been strangers, just because this beautiful bond had been fabricated in the beginning, didn't mean that it or the emotions it produced were false.... It didn't mean that their hearts had never entwined, or that they had never and would never feel anything for each other. Bonds were important. Maybe the most important thing there was in life. To just.... run away....

Gai didn't like this at all. And he didn't want to be alone.
