Fai wasn’t dead.
He wasn’t.
He couldn’t be.
Not again.
Yuui couldn’t possibly fail his twin a second time like this.
(But the truth was right there, mocking him with the suddenly still room, with the way the ice started to disappear, following the source that had unleashed it.)
Yuui’s entire body began to tremble as he licked his lips, cleared his throat, then reached a shaky hand up to brush back blond locks from his twin’s face.
“Wake up.”
He smoothed the strands back and gave the thin shoulders a slight shake. “Fai. Wake up... you have to wake up now, okay?”
His twin’s shirt was askew. He straightened it, covered the ugly black scar on his chest, smoothed long fingertips down the lacing over his chest before pulling him close in the tenderest of embraces.
Slowly, surely, his own magic began to build, to swirl around them - not in choppy pulses, but in a steady wave that spread out, further and further, the sharp crackle of the expanding ice instantaneous, snapping on the Hitomi, splintering thin paper walls before coating them in thick columns of ice.
“...you’re not sleeping, are you? You know, you weren’t supposed to die here. You can’t die, because you were already dead once. So it was my turn. You were supposed to grow up. You were supposed... supposed.... this should have been your safe place”
Raising to his feet, Yuui began to walk across the icy floor on bare feet, his brother’s form cradled against his chest as the shogi door exploded out before him. The blast carried out before him, whipped up into a frenzy as hail and snow began to scream across Amesato, blanketing the village in a thick white sheet even as his magic pushed the sudden blizzard out, further and further.
“But it’s okay, Fai. This world can wait for you to come back. I’ll just make it sleep with you, until you’re awake again. They can all sleep, and this time, you won’t be alone....”
[Aaand then the feed flickers out.]
