If he were being good, Vincent would be home in bed in Amesato. Or perhaps camping in the back yard with Fai, or doing something industrious. Instead, he was taking a little stroll around Mizusato, stopping once in a while near the home of his brothers just to stare, as if not quite daring to approach.

He didn't approach, not even after walking by several times. Instead he turned around, made his way back through town, ducking into back alleys and turning his mismatched eyes this way and that, as if on the lookout for some kind of trouble.

His long skirts swished around his boots as he moved, and his steps themselves were wide, confident.

Perhaps, if he had the best kind of luck, he'd find some kind of trouble to keep himself occupied, keep his mind off things like family or red-eyed ninjas who upset his life by appearing in the world.

More likely, he was going to bump into the man sneaking through this same alley.

It didn't take long for Jack to realize he wasn't alone. He paused to size up the new arrival. Someone unfamiliar, but not moving like someone who was up to no good. Looks could be deceiving, though.

"Out for a walk?" he said.

"Same as you, I'd assume?"

Vincent smiles pleasantly, though a hand slips into a coat pocket. It's best to be careful after all, and the weight of the gun is quite comforting.

"I don't believe we've met, have we?"

He's fallen out of the habit of keeping up with every person he's spoken to here, honestly. The twins have him quite distracted.

"I like walking at night," Jack replies, in a tone that implies, Want to make something of it? He doesn't miss the hand moving to the pocket. No one growing up in Satellite lives long without learning when someone is reaching for a weapon. "The name is Jack Atlas. Who are you?"

"Vincent Nightray."

He says the name as if it should mean something, even though in this world of course, it doesn't. Unless this man knows his brothers.

"It's a nice night for walking, isn't it? Especially in a nice place like this one. Though it seems a little tame, for a man with your... style."

Never mind that he himself is dressed with ruffles at his sleeves and at the hem of his coatdress. Somehow this man seems flashy to Vincent.

"You're right, this isn't my scene. I'd prefer a real city." He looks around, as if actually noticing the scenery for the first time. "I've lived in worse places, though."

"Have you? You don't look like a man for 'worse places' than this. I'd say you look downright noble."

He says this, with his own noble bearing and his own dirty past. And he laughs, softly, at his own private joke.

Jack smiles a little, enjoying the compliment.

"You'd be surprised," he says. "Compared to the island I grew up on, this is paradise."

"I suppose looks are deceiving."

He's comfortable now, so Vincent withdraws an empty hand from his pocket, pristine white glove tugging at his coat before falling to his side.

"You weren't looking for any kind of company tonight, were you?"

"I wasn't looking." Jack considers a moment. "I might not object if some turned up anyway. If they didn't annoy me."

"Ahh there's the rub, isn't it?"

His smile is still in place.

"I suppose I better be on my way then. I might be too annoying, even if I offer to buy you a drink?"

"Depends on how good the drink is," Jack answers. Which probably didn't mean what this person thought it meant. For a decent cup of coffee, Jack could be persuaded to put up with just about anyone.

"Well, that's no trouble at all. Your choice."

Vincent smiles, extends his hand toward the man in a sort of waving gesture, and then nods toward the closest corner. "There are quite a few nice places a few streets over, so whatever you like. I find myself... a little lonely tonight."

It's not strictly true. The company he wants is that of specific people, but for the moment... he won't turn down a chance to make a new contact, if it might help something.

"Hm," Jack answers vaguely. He isn't sure he wants to talk about being lonely. It reminded him too much of the fact that he had so often made these nighttime jaunts in the company of others - his gang, or with Carly. "Well, I can think of company I'd rather have, but since they're not here, I suppose you'll do."

"Very well then."

Vincent reaches out to link arms with the man as if it is completely natural, insistently.

"Let's go."

Jack recoils a little, instinctively. He's not used to people attempting physical contact with him. Sometimes the occasional overenthused female fan, perhaps, but not random men off the streets.

"Hands off," he says.
