Some general store, open to whoever the hell!crystalblessingJuly 8 2011, 20:03:06 UTC
Suddenly, Johan felt pairs of eyes on him at any given time.
Occasionally, though not terribly often, people were casting him looks on the street that ranged anywhere from questioning to downright dirty. He wasn't sure what to make of the change in perception, though. The thought entered his mind that instead of the world around him being the anachronism like he might've wanted to think, he was in fact the alien in their world, but he didn't really give it much further thought until he actually entered the store.
Finding what he needed had been easy enough. Luckily, he could read the labels without much difficulty. Johan sauntered up to the counter with what he wanted and knocked on it to get the shopkeeper's attention.
"Hey, can I get some help, please?"
Nothing. He wondered if the man tending to the store had heard him, and tried again, tapping the counter a little harder this time.
"...Hey?"
Another person came up next to him, and the man only cast Johan a quick, uncertain glance -- as if to say "cut it out, I heard you just fine" -- before approaching them both and beginning to serve the one who'd come up after him, as though he didn't know Johan had been there first.
Initially, Johan wanted to say something. That he had been there first, had been trying to get his attention, but then it struck him that it was a purposeful act. The man wouldn't not serve him if he wanted his money and didn't want a bad word to get out, but there were some strange feelings edging in between them. The more he wasn't acknowledged, the more uncertain Johan grew; the more uncertain Johan grew, the more tense the shopkeeper grew, and the more looks he would cast him. Yet, neither of them wanted to be made out as the one to start something unnecessary, so the tension just hung there like a palpable weight in the air.
Johan hesitantly waited his turn, looking as though he wanted to give the guy a piece of his mind, but putting a lid on the idea for now.
((OOC: Feel free to be the person who came up next to Johan, someone else in the store who sees what's going on, or someone outside and unrelated entirely! I can make it work, hehe.))
