[Week 20 | Day 2] Cooking the Books

[It was… a little surreal, walking to Gau’s bakery now. He’d been beside his notlover ever step of the way through the creation, only to step back and bite his tongue through that mess called an interview process that his partner had conducted - not to say Gau was a bad employer.
He was just inexperienced, didn’t have a grasp on how to create that line between ‘friend’ and ‘employer’.
Which was fine, really. Raikou didn’t expect him to get it perfect in his first go… but he had, until now, respected Gau’s right to run his business as he saw fit. Something independent of him and his own influence, for the first time since Raikou had taken the boy in.
Only Gau was gone and he was left here to protect their investment.
So he’d gone to his former employer and explained the situation, worked out the finer details with the man - because despite the recent strife across Kannagara, these relations were ones he knew he could trust.
And now, hours later, Raikou finds himself pausing just outside the door to take a breath, healed only that morning by that scroll, honey-blond hair hidden beneath the cerise dye, before stepping through and glancing around. There are a few customers, but at this time of day, they were hitting a lull in business, so he flips the 'closed' sign and smiles at the sight of Gilbert and Misa, one hand resting automatically on the hilt of his gamon, though hardly threatening - simply habit.
He finds he wishes he’d taken the time to get to know the two for himself a little better instead of listening to Gau’s stories, since if all went as planned…]
