[The Hitomi turns on, then off again. A few moments later the video finally picks up again. On it is the distinctively painted face of Mayuri Kurotsuchi. He's steadily gazing at the screen, almost as if he's looking beyond it and into the machinery of the device. Some might mistake that inspection as looking into themselves, dissecting their very ( Read more... )

[The blond very nearly flinches when the man uses his given name, especially with that tone but he served under Gin for far too long to give himself away that easily. His face is carefully neutral, his head bowed respectfully.] I was there, sir. And after battling multiple foes had turned my attentions to healing other officers. The boy, Kurosaki-san, arrived from Hueco Mundo shortly before Iba-san and myself were cut down by Aizen.

[He's not even going to touch on the part about Nemu, he rather expected it would be a futile effort and he didn't care to make the other man any more angry.]

Prior to my arrival here, however I was in another similar alternate world which shared no such similarities with the human world. As I said I have only been here for a short time and I was... reluctant to believe this was any different from the place I was previously due to events that had taken place there.

As for a way out... I have yet to find one and the others here believe it to be impossible to leave. I'm sure a man such as yourself will be able to remedy that. [And oddly enough he means that sincerely even if everything he says has been in the same flat, dutiful tone he gives reports in because... in a way that is precisely what he is doing.]

So, Kurosaki made to to Karkura. [A bit of satisfaction in his voice. Notice that he doesn't comment on your being cut down.]

Another world you say. Please, describe it. And how exactly did you get moved from the Karkura construct to this other world, to this one? Be precise as you can. Your travels may hold vital information. [He's not holding out much hope, the third squad lieutenant never proved to be much of a keen observer of humanity - so to speak.]

[He doesn't respond to the "compliment" as it isn't one. It's a statement of fact; of course he'll find a way out. It may take him some time but he will find it.]

The people here are quite small minded it seems. As you have the advantage of an earlier arrival tell me, where might I procure equipment and a space to set up such a laboratory? I'll need it to make any progress towards a way out.

I do not recall how I was transported there, I was rendered unconscious by my wounds and when I awoke it was upon that island. They called it Atollo and we were unable to leave the island. It appeared that there were a number of different people from both our world and others taken from vastly different points in the same timeline. Others claimed that events that I recalled as being mere moments before having taken place more than a year previously.

I cannot say with any certainty how I came to be here either… was sitting on the beach, watching the sunset, contemplating some… of the events that had taken place and…

[It’s rather embarrassing to admit, especially to a captain that he did not recall falling asleep much less being transported here but…. Truly his memory simply stopped. Swallowed up by darkness and the next thing he’d known had been Himorogi. ]

I’m sorry I cannot offer you more information on the travel process, Kurotsuchi-taichou. Gods claim to rule this place just as they had the island of Atollo before and considering some of the things I have seen take place I am inclined to believe that there must be at least some supernatural element at work here… though gods may be a stretch.

These "gods" are quite irksome. I'd certainly like to know what exactly they think they are doing. [Because if anyone could pull an answer out of a God, it's Mayuri.]

Once I have a laboratory up and functioning you'll be the first to be tested. There must be some clue as to how these "gods" move us back and forth. And you haven't answered my last question. Where can I find such supplies to continue my research? Surely you can answer that. [Don't keep him waiting Kira, he's lost his stress doll aka Nemu. You might be his new one.]

[Unfortunately he didn’t have much information on such things, he’d thought it useless because… well he’d thoroughly been expecting this strange land of Kannagara to turn into the even stranger land of Atollo any moment now.. But it hadn’t and his own broadcast dream that very morning had been the only thing to force him to acknowledge that things weren’t going to change again.] Anything like that would require a certain amount of funding that… may be difficult to attain quickly. There’s a young man in Mizusato that runs the ryokan… his name is Kinomoto-san and he would be able to give you far more detailed information than I. He’s been here for quite some time it appears.

Kinomoto-san then. Fine. What sort of money is used here? And I shall have to obtain some quickly...how much do you have? [Donate it to science!]

[Okay he can't stop himself from looking startled there.]

Ah... I have not obtained employment here yet and as such have little money. They use a system of money very similar to Japan's in the past though I understand there are ways to obtain property so long as you pay tribute to certain deities.

[And he makes no effort to hide his skepticism there.]

[Kira's expression is rather amusing. How easy it is to throw the other man off balance.]

Pay tribute. [Not happening.] Well, I shall just have to endeavor to find those in need of my services. Certainly they need doctors here. [It both is and isn't a question. He doesn't want to assume too much just yet.]

A pity you haven't found a suitable job for yourself yet. [Something in his tone implies "If you cannot donate funds, you donate organs."]
