This place...does it have some kind of ruler? Or is it utterly lawless?

I suppose that the ones who bring us here are the rulers, but there aren't any set laws. They do occasionally intervene, but for the most part they do not interact with us directly. The natives probably have a system of laws.

It varies. Things don't usually escalate to violence, lately, but there is tension. All of the natives have a mark on their forehead-- that's how they can tell us apart, when dealing with other humans.
[She has no idea what Zevran is, but guesses that it is something not quite human.]
Some are perfectly friendly though. I work with a few merchants, and I know others who are employed by natives too. Mostly they will just look at you a little oddly, it's easy enough to ignore.

You won't be the only one, there have been some non-natives far less human-looking than you here in the past. To the natives, we probably appear equally strange.
