[video] Week 25, Day 7

Jul 10, 2011 20:33

[Sup, Edo Kannagara, this here is a broadcast by your one and only Asano Rin. She's filling the screen out in... nearly just the right manner (even after over a year of constant use, her mastery of the Hitomi is not quite perfect yet), ostensibly sitting or standing, her face perfectly neutral, a little open, but also a little reticent.

Almost. Because, well, it takes something abnormal to make Rin post these days, and something abnormal certainly has happened. So indeed, a perceptive eye might notice just a hint of distraction about her manner.]

Greetings, citizens of Kannagara!

I think most of you have probably noticed the change in our environment. No town in Kannagara was ever quite so big, was it?

[A paus, and her tongue just barely flits over her lips to moisten them.]

Well, I won't withhold from you what I know. The city we suddenly find ourselves in is Edo, the biggest city in Japan, where the shōgun, de facto ruler of the country, has his seat.

It is the city I was born in. Or would be, if not for -- [and here, her strained concentration breaks a bit, and she allows herself to sigh and throw her hands up in the air in a gesture of exasperation] -- this! Still the Hitomi, and people from Kannagara here, and...

Marks. The people have the marks of the Kannagara natives. My neighbors have them.

[And here is another sigh. She closes her eyes once, then stares straight at the camera again.]

I don't know what this means in the greater scheme of things. What I do know is that you should be cautious. Though, of course, most people are nice, some... unsavory types are afoot as well. And some of them are quite adept at escaping the eyes of the government, so -- take care, please. And try not to offend anyone with a sword. It tends to end badly.

You may also want to acquire some of the local clothing to blend in a little better. [Pause.] I don't know, just a hunch. [And then, a touch harsher.] Friends of mine can ask me. I should have some spares.

If you need anything or have any questions, I'm open for anything. I'd also like you to report your locations -- [pause, because it takes her a moment to realize not everyone knows most nooks and crannies of Edo] -- as well as you can. If you are lost, at least. I know... most of the city somewhat well, so I might be able to give you directions.

[Another pause, then a light dip of the head.]

Please take care.

[And she's about to turn off the Hitomi, but then she hesitates, swallows visibly. Does she want to ask this? Does she trust the population of Kannagara at large with this information?

But then, the people she wants to inquire about can take care of themselves quite well.]

And... if you see a guy with a messy topknot in a black-and-white kimono with a manji -- wait, you lot don't know what that is -- err, with this symbol [and she draws a swastika into the air] on its back, or, hm... right, there was that... a small girl wearing men's clothes and a chequered hat with a tattoo on her cheek, please, please tell me!

That is all. [There goes that nod that is almost a bow again.] I would be greatly indebted to you. Thank you very much.

[And off the feed goes!]
