[This... this is like nothing Gau has ever seen. The scenery keeps wanting to shift, as if he's not sure if it's his dream or the other person's, one moment showing him a small blond boy and the next showing him...

Himself. Not in the small home he shared with his mother as a child, no. Not even the complex belonging to the Kairoushuu where he lived with Raikou, as much as he'd grown to love it... feel at home there... no, that had been tainted at the end. Not the house in Hisato, nor the ryokan... it's the cave in Mizusato that he sees. It's the room he shared with Raikou, that's where he is.

Except that he's not really there. He's on the bridge, the dreamwalking bridge, the bridge of Heaven. He knows that's true, but his consciousness seems to want to float, to detach into the dream in a way that is both thrilling and terrifying ( ... )

[Fai turns to regard Gau as if he were a very small, stinging insect. Here is a bright little princeling, a gaze of imperious ice and a corona of terrible power all out of proportion with his physical size. Warm, that power, telling the truth to combat the lie his distant, offended gaze allows. Blue, yes, but as the sky in summer.

In his dreams, to himself, Fai is not the sickly, weakened creature he will be when he wakes. He is, simply himself. If not whole, then at least healthy. He stares at Gau's hand as if it were an alien thing.

Then, a spark of recognition. The realization- where is this place?]

Hello. Is this a dream?

It is, but -

[Was it his dream or the boy's dream? The boy, the prince, the magician. That feeling of power... and yet Gau's own calm is still there, wrapped around him like a mantle.

He sets his hand to the higanbana charm on his belt (not the sword, the charm, that's what protects him most now) and manages to smile.]

I haven't been in the dreams of anyone like you before. Forgive me... I'm Gau.

[A low bow here, to go with the introduction. The figure in hakama and neat sweater vest and tie is quite careful with his posture, it's obvious, despite being a little too late for proper politeness.]

You walk around in other people's dreams?

[Fai is not the kind of child who smiles a great deal. He may one day grow to be that person, but it doesn't come to him naturally, which only augments the noblesse oblige in his stance and expression. He accepts the bow with the bearing of a crown prince.]

They don't mind?

[Finally, he steps out onto the bridge, curiosity momentarily conquering caution. Of course he doesn't mind; his life is forfeit already.

Fai's mind might be here, but his body is warm and safe, sleeping in his brother's arms. He's too exhausted to be frightened.]

[Matt hasn't lived a day like this, not one where he felt everything was exactly as it should've been, though in Kannagara, he's caught at that feeling more than once. Being where he's supposed to be. It's not familiar; he always felt disconnected at home, was always waiting for something, or hiding from something, keeping his head down. But maybe this is a feeling that's all the more special because it isn't one he's experienced often.

He's in the House in flashes, the place he knows best, the halls he can still walk in his memory as reliably as if he were there, sneaking around at night, barefoot and jumpy, to get outside and grab a quick smoke. Not really Wammy's, though, because he's a grownup, not the scrawny kid he was, and night is falling as he climbs out onto the roof. He can see a bird with more wings than happen on Earth gliding in to settle next to him, and it's more a feeling than words that flows between them, the feeling Matt thinks might be the rarest, that could be said as < I love you >, but means more than that. It ( ... )

[Fai stretches and yawns, curled up on his side among the blankets. It's still relatively dim, but dawn is long, long past and Yuui is clearly visible in the morning's light. One of those long arms is draped over Fai's shoulder, while its owner still sleeps to all external appearances. Fai apparently has no intention of getting outside Yuui's touching distance anytime soon.]

Mmnnh? It's bright, huh.

[Matt can understand that urge to stay within sight of someone close to you; he's felt it twice, here.]

Yeah. Morning does that.

D'you see the world like that all the time? [This is his curiosity spilling out.] All... vivid and interconnected?

[He frowns in a way that suggests that it's too early to be thinking this hard. It's a terribly weary expression, given the sunken, emaciated state of his face, but it isn't meant to be.]

You...don't? [Dawning horror: you people are all blind!]

[From the bedroom to the kitchen, it's nothing strange. Nothing strange at all, not the fact that Yukito is following him into the kitchen, as if perhaps his best friend stayed the night ( ... )

[The sudden snap of energy, of raw power no longer tightly contained, has Yuui bolting upright in the bed. With a quick flurry of movements, those closer to those found in a battlefield rather than a quiet little house, he was across the room in an instant, snatching a staff from beside the door as he went, calling a quick warning over his shoulder to his twin as he goes.]

Stay here, Fai!

[He doesn't wait to see if his twin listens before slamming the door to the side and dashing out, down the hall to Touya's room. The shock of tumultuous magic flickering like inconsistent waves of heat slams over Yuui as he steps into the room - but there is no other threat, nothing there to defend against.

Which means the threat is from within Touya himself, to himself ( ... )

[Having his magic roughly shut down is not Touya's favorite way to wake up. In fact, he's going to rate it 'second worst waking of his life', right after the morning following his mother's death when he woke up and crept in her room to wish her good morning before remembering.

His first instinct is to lash out at the person containing him, but as is his nature, it's a physical instinct and not a magical one. It's not as if he's ever used his power to attack, after all. So it's only his arms that fly out toward the expected 'attacker'...

And then his eyes properly open, a wide startled brown, flitting around the room a little in surprise before settling on the face of the man before him.]

What are you...?

[Fai has never been particularly good at following orders. He could, and did, when he saw the reasons for them, and considered staying in bed, for just one bare minute after being told to do so.

And then Yuui's magic had flared and Fai was on his feet at a dead run before he had time to consider anything else. There's danger! his instincts were screaming, and then Yuui needs me!

Or perhaps, it was that he needed Yuui.

Either way, Fai fell noisily against the door as Touya calmed. The danger was already past and The only sound in the room was the three of them breathing and the low crystalline song of Yuui's magic in Fai's ears.]

Oh!

[Oh, I see! Touya's magic had...done something?]

[This feeling, of a familiar place... ah, he's in Tanyuu's house. Or maybe it's Adashino's... or maybe he's among the Watari. The landscape changes in flickers, whenever he stops looking at it. Maybe it's all three, with a few often-traveled stretches of road thrown in for good measure ( ... )
