[So this was what mister flowright was trying to keep under wraps. This obvious deal with a devil. Oh how Break could relate to that. Of course his wish did not sacrifice family but it did sacrifice those he served those he had sworn an oath to protect, and not to mention, the life and future of that girl who had clung to his coat before he stepped into the world of carnage. A world that would turn stained with the blood of his victims, his offerings for a wish that ended up destroying the one thing he strived to preserve.]

So that's the rest of the story.

[There is no amusement in his tone this time. As tempting as it might be to act that way, he can't quite find the desire to do it. After all this all strikes such a deliciously ironic note close to home.]

I see wishes work the same in other worlds as well.

[Much, much, later - once the sunrise begins to paint the sky in palest hues of rose and lavander, Fai sighs and draws a quiet smile into place, in order to respond properly to this too-sharp man. Because he had no doubt - he was looking for Fai's cracks, just to pull them open and see what was left inside.

But really, all he would find was this - the memory that was an obsession. The desire that drives.]

...much like double-edged blades, the more powerful the wish. And some wishes... [A pause to take a sip of steaming coffee.] The required price is too high to grant without unraveling the laws of reason and logic.

A blade forged to protect, to save, to recover. Only to pierce that very same thing and destroy it even more.

[He might be going on his own little tangent and there's a look of guilt over his eyes for a brief moment.]

And sometimes even if the price is met the outcome is not what we truly want. Fickle things these wish granters, they always make use of loopholes to make you regret ever trying.

[Recognition resonates for a moment, the glimmer of realization, of understanding, before Fai lifts his cup to his lips once more, takes a light sip.]

Potentially, as I suspect you well know, hm? But then...

[He lifts a shoulder in a slight shrug and smiles a humorless smile.]

I've know from that day that the price of my wish, to correct this, will be the balance of my own life. Even if it takes another century, I will not stop until that price is paid.

You could say that...

[Watching you closely, registering every reaction you make.]

A worthy endeavor. As long as you don't lose sight of the lesson learned last time.

Not a likely thing to happen.

[No, not at all. Because from that moment to this, every action, every lie, ever spell and battle learned and fought, all of it was with this one wish held at the core.

There was no price he wouldn't pay, no lie that he would keep from passing his lips, no battle that he'd refuse to fight, if it meant in the end he could give back that which he stole.

Morality had no place for him - after all, he was only a memory in his own mind.

So here, have a smile as Fai sets his now empty cup down.]

Now, if you'll excuse me, I really must go to the market before it gets too crowded. Have a good day, Mister Break.
