[week 18, day 2] arrival -- video

[She should be more concerned about the fact she went from being in New York to being here, but Claire can't really be bothered but to do anything but stare at the beautiful scene surrounding her. She's holding a phone in one hand and knows that she's recording, but doesn't really make any hurry to do anything interesting. She's standing in the ( Read more... )

Oh? Now that's something I didn't think I'd hear for a while. Somebody else from New York?

[Fox is incredibly pleased to hear this, and she can't help but smile cheerily.]

There's no way back yet, not that's been found, anyway, but it's not so bad. My name's Fox. It's nice to meet you, Claire.

[Claire looks a little sheepish at first, mostly because she doesn't want to outright lie to someone and admit that she's from New York. But at the same time, maybe this person wouldn't speak to her if she wasn't from the city.

So she takes the best course of action and decides to tell a half-truth.]

Well, my family is from New York. I live in Texas, though.

[She pauses, arching a single eyebrow.]

And is Fox a nickname for something, or are you a musician?

[Because musicians in New York probably went by things like Fox, right? Maybe she was a model or an actress. Yes, Claire is a terrible person and just assumes things like this.]

Oh? That's cool, though. There aren't a whole lot of Americans here. It's nice working with everybody, but it's good to hear about somebody from close to home. Ever been to Manhattan?

[She doesn't see why the girl would lie, so she doesn't question it. Her smile is easy and relaxed.]

Fox is my legal name. I got it changed. I'm an actress, or I was. I'm just a mom now.

[She seems so proud of that, but it's undercut with sadness and worry. She has a family to get home to.]

[Family. Claire realizes for the first time that hers is still back in New York. Her father is probably going insane trying to find her, and without any way to reach him he's going to start killing a lot of people to find her.

She frowns, and bows her head, and nods in understanding.]

I already miss my mom. I was away from her for a week or so before I ended up here. I hope you're able to get home to your kids.

[She decides that topic is too depressing to sit and think about, so she goes back to talking about New York. That's a safer topic.]

My family lives in the Upper East Side, so I've spent a little time there.

We're going to find a way home. I've only got one kid, though. His name's Alex; he's three months old. [On the one hand, it's depressing, but on the other hand it feels nice to tell someone about him. It's not like he's a secret back home what with the media frenzy, so she doesn't see the need to keep him a secret here.]

Ever been by the Eyrie building? That's where I live.

[The Eyrie building is an unmistakeable part of the Manhattan skyline...in Fox's version of Manhattan. It's a tall skyscraper with a castle on top of it, the main building of Xanatos Enterprises as well as the home of the Xanatos family. But the idea that there might be people from a New York very similar to Fox's home but not identical hasn't yet occurred.]

[She has to think that one over. Has she ever been by the Eyrie building? She has no idea, honestly. So she just shrugs, and shakes her head a little, looking sheepish about her lack of knowledge of the city.]

I'm not really sure. I still don't know my way around, and when I was there, I was...busy, so I didn't get time to sightsee.

That's a shame. When we get out of here, next time you're in town I'll let you come up to the top. The view's great.

[Fox is the sort of person who gets through emotional crises by bottling it up and covering it over with bravado.]

That's assuming we're ever able to get out of here. How many other people have been able to leave so far?
