[Raikou can't help but frown at the kids in the video. He knows, of course, that such bullying happened even in his school...but it is something he actually has little experience with.
The children in his school, in the small village outside Tokyo where his family estate had been, were all children of families beholden to the Shimizu clan in some way.
Branch family children, servants children, the children of their clan's followers and later as he got older, some few that had no real connection to their family but were aware of them.
Thus they'd been smart to not conduct themselves as such within his view. Still, he'd known it happened and in the rare instances he had stumbled upon it, he'd put a halt to it with a swiftness.
Back then, his heart was still almost open and warm, held a lingering faith in justice, before his family's politics had erroded that faith down to a shadow of what it'd once been. Still.]
My Japan or your...I regret you were treated as such, Lelouch-kun.

[ Still shaking off the last remnants of sleep, Lelouch smiles slightly and shrugs. ]
It's been years... I've suffered much worse since then, in other ways. Childhood woes pale in comparison. And once Britannia won the war, that power differential never went away. [ Faint bitterness leaks into his tone. ] Only reversed itself.

True, but in the process I found a friend. Without whom I could never have accomplished the things I have. [ Oh, Suzaku. Lelouch will never understand how to feel about you. He will never know what to say to you anymore, you to whom he will entrust his life. Suzaku, who betrayed him. Suzaku, who saved him. Suzaku. What will he do with you? ] Without whom... I could not even call myself the same person.
[ With effort, Lelouch wrenches his thoughts back to the present. ]
Otherwise, I suppose I've been doing well. I'm lucky to have housing. My old neighbors in Kusasato didn't want to see me around anymore, not that I can truly fault them. Trouble follows me even at home.

[Raikou can't help but smile at that, and glance to the side where he can see the steady rise and fall of Gau's breathing, perfectly even in a deep slumber. It's a simple comfort, yes, but one he's not likely to ever take for granted again.
Not with the knowledge that in his own timeline, he would never have this chance. That he'd died without even having the chance to tell him... anything, really.
His gaze lingers on the still form for a long moment as he speaks softly.]
It's a little amazing how all it takes is that one person to change you, isn't it? They can...be your conscience and your strength, your support and your confidante and everything else in between.
[A blink and a smile as he glances back at the Hitomi.]
That's good to hear though. But if you have any other problems, you should consider Mizusato. The locals here are still pretty friendly with us.

[A smile, soft and a little sleepy himself before he takes a sip of fire-warmed tea.]
It's never pleasant to remember being stuck on the outside as a child, now is it? Regardless of the reason.
How have you been otherwise?
