This place -- Kannagara, wouldn't penalize you for truancy. [at least, not that he knows of. he didn't think there was even a school here, to be honest. ah well, the wonders of a new place.]

[The news about not getting in trouble perks him up, and the name makes him think again that he's somehow gotten into a story. That happens all the time in the books he likes.]

[Eep, that's a little scary. But Mail doesn't really believe in capital-G God, having heard all too much about him from social workers and the last place he stayed, where Mrs. Madden got mad at him for saying God was kind of a jerk. So in the next instant, he sort of mentally retcons it. Weird world, important powers: par for the course in this sort of thing.]
Maybe we can do stuff they can't, 'cause we're from outside and the rules're different.

[hm.] Maybe so. I was raised to believe that the Gods can do anything without so much as batting their eyes ... but I suppose there might just be some things that they don't have the power to do.
