Chinese and Japanese Calligraphy
One of my favorites so far:
"Fuyu Aki"
The Kanjis for "Winter" (top) and "Fall" (bottom), with hiragana written below each of the characters.
Some outtakes:
"Chiri (Molester Diarrhea)"
If I made this half-decent and put it on some nice xuan paper with some sumi-e painting in the background, this could easily pass as a work of art in someone's office. They wouldn't be any the wiser unless they got someone to look it up.
In all fairness, the "Chi" character for "molester" can also be interpreted as "Idiot" or someone who's not "right in the head."
"An Ning (peace)"
"An Ning" in Mandarin. Basically the combination of a woman under a roof, meaning "peace," and a man under the roof, meaning "peace" as well.
"Sansenbanri (Faraway Across Mountains and Streams)"
Literally "mountains, rivers, 24400 miles." The last character "Ri" is like the Japanese version of our "league." "Ban" means "10,000."
