I was going to try to get some sleep after work but I've been laying in the dark for over an hour badly rattled. On 1 December the company that administers our health insurance through COBRA drafted over $600 from our checking account instead of the $215 we were expecting. Since the people I work for and the temp agency had screwed things up with my time sheet last week I hadn't been paid yet. There were overdraft fees, we can't pay our rent which we're already behind on, there's our storage unit and the mobile phones and the car insurance and the internet to pay for -- without the last I can't work at all. So big scary.
The COBRA subsidy that was passed as part of the stimulus package
lasts nine months. November was the last month. In January the premiums will go up to $685 a month. Plus the $5,000 deductible we have to somehow come up with.
My mom is willing to help with the insurance. My dad called today. Can one of us get a job with benefits? The wife has been trying since she lost her job in February and hasn't been able to. Tax season is coming up maybe you could get another job as a tax preparer. I'm very sick and can barely do the job I have now. It did not seem like a good time to get into detail. It seemed fucking hopeless actually so I didn't.
Mom just called. She says we need to figure out a way to live.
Yeah. That's great.
