Secret's Out

EDIT: (11/09/09 Update Notes) MV is patched on certain NMs.  The fact that you have to wait "X" amount of time after a helix lands for MV to be used actually does not affect this strategy.  However, NM resistance probably will and AV is almost certainly on the list of resistance mobs.

Could you explain why you and the other people on BG are even slightly upset that this was "outed"?

I can understand that SE will just patch the hell out of this within the next few days, but you have to realize that when attempting something like this there are pretty high chances that someone spills the beans, no matter how loyal he/she apparently looks on the surface.

Therefore when you started working on this methoed you already knew that it was unrealistic to think that those ~40 people who knew that were going to keep that for themselves forever.

And even if you successfully managed to kill AV, would have that changed anything other than putting another Bellona/Mars/random drop in circulation? That, assuming SE wouldn't just remove those items because they were obtained through an exploit.

I do not believe that killing AV through an obvious exploit is an accomplishment of any sorts (this does not include the KC zerg thing, because before it was patched everyone thought that was the REAL way it was intended... darn SE).

I don't want to sound like a troll, but I'm surprised that you seemed not to expect something like this.

"As I write this I am incredibly disappointed as this strategy was essentially outed on BG by a group that failed to even kill anything of significance with this method (basically AV); however, I suppose this is the nature of things when you deal with potentially game-breaking oversights in mechanics."

I even state right off the bat that I'm not necessarily surprised, just disappointed. The point wasn't that it would be kept secret forever, but that we would speed towards an AV kill before it was outed. We all knew it was a race against time, and we fell short. That's where the disappointment stems from, not the fact it was just outed in general.

AV drops are not 'removed' for because they were obtained by 'exploits'. Even the salvage duped items were retained if you weren't banned. SE doesn't retroactively remove items - if they did, no AV items would exist as they were all 'exploits'.

That wasn't really the point for me though. It was simply a goal I had. I know it may not make a lot of sense but this kind of thing is pretty much the only thing that keeps me entertained in FFXI. To each his own I suppose.
