I know it's a mistake to stray from my safe little corner of the reasonable, sensible internets, but there I go again, into the territory of people who get their news entirely from Faux News.
This? Is why I generally keep my head down about any and all things related to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. I know jack shit about it, and pointedly refuse to sound stupid by mouthing off about something I just don't know.
(Er, "this" being that person you're venting about, not you or your post.)
It just pisses me off, you know? And I know I shouldn't bother saying anything, but I did. And the person responded by saying I must be either misinformed, or devoid of human feeling.
The whole point of loving something is in wanting to make it a good thing, a shining beacon of something amazing, not by insisting that it already is, and all who disagree are evil and/or mean.
(She called me mean, babel. She called me mean because I said Israel shouldn't kill civilians. I am outraged, and also going, WTF??)
Thank you, sweetie. I'm a little fragile right now, after conference (funny story - involving Afghanistan, a travelling humanitarian programme manager and a missing purse) and then finalising the budgets. I've had one too many "you've gutted our programme, how can I work under these conditions?!" phone-calls. Like it's something I want to do - or that I was even the one that signed off on it! They see my name on there, read 'finance' and assume I'm spending donor funds on pixie sticks and Jimmy Choos. And then I get called mean by people who are watching this on Fox News. Mean, I'll show her mean. *mutter mutter*
So I ate toast and had tea and watched 27 Dresses. And I felt better.
That said, I'm keeping my head down-ish about this conflict. As a German, I just - I can't help feeling more involved and less objective. All I was saying was that people shouldn't kill civilians. I didn't realise that was going to be so controversial! *shakes head* I think you made a good choice to stay out of it, there are some seriously crazy people
