Spouse and I just played our first live game in forever - and guess what? I beat the new Beanpot champ 513 to 318. Getting both blanks and a triple-triple helped. SEQuOIA with the first blank, followed by ABDUcE(N)T with the second. I knew ABDUCENS, but was only 80% sure of the other. Had to try it, though - even though I had the 89-point ABUTtED elsewhere. DEBUtA(N)T would have been the sure-bet 3x3, if I had bothered to look more carefully. Spouse made pretend he was going to challenge, but did not. I didn't completely bag him, as he got ZKSJ, but it was still pretty lop-sided. I just need this type of luck in two days. If so, I hope I'm sittin' across from you, Joe.
And Joe: I know you're already in TX, and that you've paid your entry fee, but I will not believe you're actually playing till I see you playing with my own two eyes. If so, honestly? I will wish you only the best. I'm done being jealous. Go over 1900 - even, dare I say, 2000! - and I'm sure all the naysayers including me will be red-faced. :)
