Just to flesh things out, we decided that the Baltimore Inner Harbor would be a great place for this despite the fact that we'll no longer be living here next year for a bunch of reasons:

Major city, easily accessible by air from most places.

Not nearly as expensive as places like Philly, NYC, DC, or Boston would be.

Lots of restaurants ranging from super-cheap to exorbitant within walking distance. Fogo de Chao, P.F. Chang's, Houlihan's, McCormick & Schmick, Cheesecake Factory, Hard Rock Cafe, Hooters, ESPN Zone, and Morton's Steakhouse right off the top of my head, as well as any number of smaller, non-chain-like places. Literally within a ten-minute walk.

Plenty of hotel options nearby, also in a wide price range.

Camden Yards within walking distance. Haven't checked the Orioles' schedule yet, but what better way to cap off a day of Scrabble than with a night of baseball? You know, even if it is only the O's.

The BEAUTIFUL Baltimore Aquarium literally next door to the venue we're thinking about, which would be a lovely way for non-Scrabble-playing family members to spend a day or two.

Plenty of night-life options within easy walking distance.

Free on-street parking not too far away in Little Italy, if you're willing to look around a little.
