Last week, I went to pay off my library fine and it was the very day that
Stealing the Network: How to Own an Identity
came in. That came as a shock considering I had recommended the library to order it about a month ago after reading the review on
Slashdot.
Anyway, it's not your usual cyberpunk novel in that it's actually technologically correct. It includes the names of many current hacking utilities and even provides screenshots. It's much more than a cyberpunk novel. It's a series of almost contiguous short stories written from the perspective of different characters in the grander scheme of the story. Some of the stories are told by the criminals who got themselves mixed up with the Troika, some from computer forensic investigators.
I would recommend it to people who like sci-fi despite the fact it's not fantasy-oriented and also people who like crime dramas. If you want to search for it, the ISBN is 1-597490-06-7. I'm too lazy to set up an affiliate link for Amazon or Barnes and Noble.
Happy reading!
