Political Entertainment

I was listening to this dude on the local radio station, Ambrose Lane, and a caller said something very interesting. Now this show is a political talk show, and I guess you would call it "alternative media," which is the main reason that I like it. One of the topics of the day was who has the right to nuclear weapons.

Anyway, this caller was an older woman who sounded as if she had some sort of respiratory problem, so it was hard to hear some of her points. But one thing I heard very clearly was that the majority of the American people are willingly subject to what she termed "political entertainment." Hmmmm. That's very true. Why are things the way they are? Like the war... and how many of us know how much are dollar is really worth? And why? How many of us take the time to actually become informed on issues? Even with an election coming up, how many of us really know what the candidates' platforms are, and then take the time to go even deeper? Honestly, I don't, and I haven't. Shameful, right? I, like many Americans, wait for the latest scandal (i.e. John Edwards calling Hillary out for wearing the same suit twice) to gauge who is "better." Unfortunately, I take a lot of media coverage for face value, rather than doing my own research and fill in the MANY blanks that mainstream media leave out. Overall, we are a very uninformed society.

It's a very whimsical thought that the government will sort everything out. Democrats, Republicans, whoever, it's not even about the people, it's about the money that will fund their interests. But why am I even surprised that there would be so much politics involved in...politics? We have to hold our politicians accountable--true--but first, we have to hold ourselves accountable. And that starts with being informed.

On another note, I think the only way that there will ever be world peace is if another planet declared war on ours. Maybe it is just human nature to fight. But what exactly are we fighting for?

Let's hope for a wonderful, blessed, drama-free Thanksgiving! But I already know there will be much drama at my house...but if there wasn't I would know immediately that I was in the wrong place :-)
