Yeah, Faith doesn't make an appearance in the first chapter, so she's out of the picture by then. Originally the plan was to kill her between now and then, but I enjoy writing her too much so I have to try to write myself out of the corner of "Can she leave Giles's counsel by any way other than death that leaves him smelling like a rose?" It's tricky, and I hope I can do it comfortably, but she may have to die when all is said and done. :(

Look for Buffy: Origin or, if you can't find it, Buffy Omnibus Vol 1 also contains that story as well as the sequel, Viva Las Buffy, which follows Buffy and Pike after the gym.

I read Origin from the library (yay!) but I'll have to snag the Omnibus from work; I'm pretty sure we have it there! Thanks!

Oh, yeah, and the new Slayer is Vi, which is short for either Violet or Vivianne, I don't remember. Anyway, she's canon, my favorite Potential, so I had to use her:
