Of Course That Happened...
They just announced the voice of Megatron in the upcoming Transformers movie.
An absolutely kick-ass choice. Mr. Hugo "Agent Smith/V/Elrond" Weaving.
...aaaaand, of course, the fan-bitching has begun. About three or four months ago, it was announced that Peter Cullen, the voice of the original Optimus Prime, was coming back to voice him in the new movie. Which I think is a good choice. His voice fits well in the modern context.
Frank Welker, the original voice of Megatron, does not. He played the character as a cartoon villain in the cartoon: Over-the-top, mustache twirling/black-top-hat-wearing/tying the girl to the railroad tracks type of villain.
We don't need that in a movie that Steven Spielberg had to fight to keep from an R rating.
Weaving's a great voice for Megatron. Bring it on!
