Okay so I'm reading this
Twilight fic Appassionata written by lisa89, and sometimes I skim the reviews and I come across this review that just bothered me, in fact it pissed me off. Here is what the reviewer stated:
Here is my PSA lol- No matter how mad she was... Bella had no right to slap Edward.
Women seem to think they have the right to use physical assault against men whenever they please as forms of chastisement, and that is sexist. Bella does this in fic all the time. I swear to God, Bella slaps or punches Edward at least once in every fic I have ever read. And that is wrong. If a man were to slap or punch a woman because she broke up with him, or cheated on him, or hurt his feelings, or made him mad... he would go to jail. Bella hurts Edward in fic all the time, but Bella never gets slapped for doing it. Its not right that a woman can do that to a man, but a man can't do it to a woman in the reverse situation. That is a nasty double standard... and its not cool... especially for how hard women are fighting for equality among the sexes now a days.
I am not saying you advocate physical violence. Your Bella actually regretted hitting Edward, that's a first. But I see this in fic all the time, and I read in other reviews that "Edward needs to get slapped" or "Bella needs to beat the sh*t out of Edward" etc... so if it is such a recurring theme... people obviously think its ok to do. So this is not really for you as the author, I just hope other readers might read the review.
Ok so I just have to get this out. Do I believe that hitting a man is wrong, yes. Women should not hit their men, but sometimes it happens. Am I a violent person? Absolutely not. But there is definitely a difference from a man hitting a woman and a woman hitting a man. When a man hits a woman there is bruising, scaring and hospitalization, when a woman hits a man, the only thing bruised is his ego. Yes I'm sure there are exceptions, but statistics show that men commit up to 90% of domestic violence. That's a lot of men hitting women. That's all I have to say.
