It never rains....

but it pours. And that phrase was never so apt as it was today!!

What a great day it started out to be, that is, until we crawled out of bed this morning. Our son headed for the dining room whereby he let out such a howl. "Bring towels!!, Dad, we need towels out here!"

Hubby, on the run now, gathered an armful of towels. Then the swearing began. The dining room had sprung a leak!

See, we got the tail end of a hurricane overnight and our roof leaked. The ceiling in the dining room had a huge bulge in it and was drip, drip, dripping all over my hardwood floors. We cleaned up the mess and posted buckets under the drips to catch the falling water. I layed towels all over the floor to absorb and splash and hopefully to keep the hardwood from getting wetter. Some of it was already swollen from water falling before we woke. Anyway, hubby headed off to work and the boy headed off to school, leaving me home with the constant drip............drip...........drip

About midmorning, I heard the drip begin to get faster. I go to the dining room and look up. There is now a smiling mouth staring down at me.....part of the ceiling separated! As I watch, the weight of the water (and soaked gyproc) makes the split larger. The next thing I know, half my ceiling is on my floor!!

A quick call to the insurance adjuster, but damn and blast, it's not storm damage! Tis' just old age! The roof is nearly as old as my daughter (Epiphling)! Now we have a big hole in the dining room and we can't begin repairs until the whole damned roof is replaced. Just what we need with Christmas coming up, a major expense! Anyway, we have several contractors coming tomorrow to give us estimates on redoing the whole roof, but the winner will be the one who can get the job done the soonest! Time is of the essence here. We have been enjoying great warm weather these past several weeks, but today the temps have dropped and we now know we are in the fall season - it really feels like October up here now, time for sweaters and jackets again. Oh well, hopefully I'll have a new roof by the end of the week!

Keep your fingers crossed, okay?
