I was waiting for such a long time, she said. I thought you forgot. It's hard to forget, I said, when there is such an empty space when you are gone.
It was a day filled with the glow of ordinary things & we passed them quietly from hand to hand for a long time & someone said she had picked a perfect day to be born & I think all of us felt the same.
When I first met her, I knew in a moment I would have to spend the next few days re-arranging my mind so there'd be room for her to stay.
torn between wanting to stay & wanting to go & worried it will be the wrong decision either way
running wildly into the spring wind chasing down all the dandelions before they turn into just weeds in a couple of years
I would not say I love you so much if you could teach me a better way, I said & she said that'd do fine for now.
When she held out her arms, the world itself wrapped around me & held me tight.
someone asked them to be quiet, so it's just a matter of time before all hell breaks loose
If I love you with all my heart, she said, what will you give me? & then she stopped & said I didn't have to answer that because she was going to do it anyway.
Today all I could remember was the way your body held the ocean of my self & for a moment there was only one us in all creation.
It's hard to say the right words without practice, I said & she whispered in my ear, Say them as many times as you like & we practiced late into the night.
We sat side by side in the morning light & looked out at the future together.
I will always remember the day the sun shone dark on your hair & I forgot where we were & kissed you lightly on the nose & suddenly there was no more secret.
As long as the sun shall rise goes the old lovers vow. But we are children of a scientific age & have no time for poetry. Still, I offer a quiet prayer of thanks for the sunlight each time I see your face.
We listened as he played the guitar & sang old love songs & then there was a moment we looked at each other & discovered we were much younger than other people might suspect & it was good to know we had that much more time together.

One day you will ask me which is more important? my life or yours? I will say mine and you will walk away not knowing that you are my life.
A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness.
Robert Frost
If All Else Perished And He Remained, I Should Still Continue To Be; And If All Else Remained And He Were Annihilated, The Universe Would Turn To A Mighty Stranger."-William Shakespeare
"If I know what love is, it is because of you." - Herman Hesse
"Once in awhile, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairy tale.
"You're nothing short of my everything."
"I cannot exist without you. I am forgetful of everything but seeing you again. My life seems to stop there, I see no further. You have absorb'd me. I have a sensation at the present moment as though I were dissolving. I have been astonished that men could die martyrs for religion... I have shudder'd at it... I shudder no more. I could be martyr'd for my religion: Love is my religion. I could die for that. I could die for you. My creed is love, and you are its only tenet. You have ravish'd me away by a power I cannot resist." - letter written by John Keats
We lay there & looked up at the night sky & she told me about stars called blue squares & red swirls & I told her I'd never heard of them. Of course not, she said, the really important stuff they never tell you. You have to imagine it on your own.
