Wow.
Well I had a reconnection with my ansestors over vacation.
For Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, I was visiting my grandparents in New Sweden. On Friday night, it was my grammie's 89th birthday. She's like the typical stereotypical grandmother. She makes her own bread from the potatoes (right off the farm) and her cabinets are filled with numerous perserves from the garden out back. Oh and her made-from-scratch cookies are the best. My grampie, who will be 93 in April, still drives and brings home the 6 foot Christmas tree off the farm each year. New Sweden it right out of an old story book. Its truly a remarkable place. And the connection with its roots is amazing. But anyway, the most awesome thing happened that Saturday night. My grampie came into the living room and showed a guitar to my father. My dad handed it to Jamey cuz he plays guitar pretty often. After my brother set it down, I picked it up and proceeded to attempt and tune it. It was horribly off key. It looked like it hadent been played in a while but when it had been in use, it was obvious that it was used a lot because just below the strings (in the place where you hit each time you strum) the polish had been worn down to the grain of the wood. I stummed a few off-pitch chords on it and then my grampie explined that his mother played in a local string band. It was then that I realized the guitar I was holding was my great-grandmother's. Wow. Can you say awe-struck? It was pretty cool. So yeah, thats my story of vacation. Pretty cool, huh?
Anyways, thats all for now.
Oh yeah, and on Sunday, I went to church in the same building that my great great grandparents went to church in :-)
