Last day on the job

Aug 17, 2007 15:15

This is my last day at Baylor. I continue my quest to become a mathematician at the University of Houston starting next Monday. Maybe. Assuming a hurricane doesn't wreck my plans. At least my classes are all paid for, and I'm starting to think about whether I want to do a thesis or a tutorial track. (Hint: probably a thesis.)

Actually, I think I've worked out a way I can bunker down for a hurricane if it comes, so I'm not terribly worried. Worst case scenario would mean a little bit of time without power, but I went through that just a week or so ago without too much trouble (only losing one bag of frozen chicken).

Since I'm moving on to someplace with a less draconian internet policy (I really shouldn't be writing this, but I've alredy turned in my badge, so it's not like they can fire me after my last day), I should be able to write more entertaining updates in this space.

This also means I won't have to wear long pants in 100 degree weather anymore, since for the first time in over three years I am not working in a bio research facility. I'm going to miss the long nights, the low pay, and the regular reports on how much radiation poisoning I can expect to get (very little, since I did mostly theoretical work on a computer), but I won't miss the commute. Will I fall out of shape now that I won't be walking three miles every day just to get to and from work?

Life is good. Time to stock up on groceries.
