amazing.

last night Christian and I went to the Elected show at the Troubadour. Prior to the show we ate at Pink's and the line moved amazingly fast. We were worried that we might miss the opening acts which we like to see how bad they are, but we made it to the venue with half an hour to spare before the doors opened. amazing. We got the perfect seats in the front of the balcony and the only problem i had was during the first band, this guy was practically sitting on my lap. but you know, it happens. the first band was okay, but i wasn't too into them. I think they were called Grand Ole Party. The second band was freaking amazing. We bought their CD before their set was even over. They were called Margot and the Nuclear So & Sos. They had 8 people in their band. it was nuts. but their music was great. then the elected came on and blake did his thing and was of course naturally awesome. we have decided that he and jenny lewis mess up on purpose becuase it makes them seem more endearing and when they do it they're so darn cute. I didn't even get the normal uncomfortable/perv vibes i usually get off of him. AND mike bloom shaved his face, so he didn't have that vibe either. it was amazing.

but the REALLY AMAZING part of the evening was my encounter with the beautiful and wonderul jenny lewis. for those of you who don't know, i think this woman is one of the most talented musicians, and she is obviously my favorite singer. so we were waiting for the first act, and i got kind of bored, so i was scanning the crowd, people watching if you will. i look down and see pierre from rilo kiley and two women. i go to turn to Christian to tell him that pierre is here with his wife and isn't that cool that he's supporting blake sennet when i look down again and see a flash of red hair and realize that it's jenny lewis by his side. all i can do is turn to christian, point, and squeal "it's jenny lewis!" my thing about celebrities is i don't like to bother them. i don't want to interrupt their good time, and i mean, honestly, what would i say to them that they haven't already heard a million times from people who probably don't even mean it. so i sat through the beginning of the first act, and knew that jenny was watching the band from the floor. i saw two girls go up to her, but i was still torn. i wanted a picture or at least to introduce myself, but i didn't want to look like a teenie bopper jackass. so Christian, in all of hihs brilliantness, asks me if i have anything to write on. i produce our Christmas list and then i realize what he is going to do. he's going to write her an invitation to our wedding!

now, i have been struggling for a few months as to how to get an invitation to her. There is no rilo kiley fan mail address that i can find, nor a jenny lewis fan mail address. i don't want to send it through myspace becuase for all she knows i'm a crazy stalker (that's probably what she's thinking now anyways, but oh well). so my genius fiance has the genius idea to simply do it in person. I mean, its a unique way to introduce ourselves, and its unusual, so maybe she'll remember. so he writes the note for me and i rush downstairs to her. i hold out the paper, but she's not sure what i want her to do with it, so i unfold it and let her read it. she says to me "august? but that's so far away!" and i smiled and said "well, we like to plan things early". then she said "well, thanks for the invitation!" and i said "no problem" and not thinking touched her shoulder lightly (geezus, i sound like a crazy woman) and scurried back upstairs to tell Christian my news. then i called nick at work and left him a message because he was the only other person i could think of who would really care that i talked to jenny lewis. lol. it may not sound like much to some, but for me, it was amazing.
