Fanfic: Missing Pieces

Jun 16, 2010 15:00

My first shot on a ShiNata (Shida x Kanata) fanfic. I've been seeing alot of Kanata these days, well mainly because of his drama, YanMega in which he looks superb in glasses.

Oh yeah this fic also contains a little Yamada and its un-beta-ed so errors anyone?

Missing Piece

The rumours were outrageous, it was hard to surf the net and not read about it.
People are beginning to expect to much.
Shida Mirai glanced at Yamada Ryosuke who sat with two other boys who were a member of his group, then let out a quiet sigh. Rumours that excalated with him and Mariya who used to be their classmate and had to transfer school. Because of this sudden decision made by the latter, she who was sitting quietly not minding their business was now included in the story, which was giving her a headache.
Not that she hated Ryosuke, she had once worked with him years back and he was a good friend.
But yes people expected to much, made stories and wanted things to happen.

For now she could not tell nor meet their expectations.
If its meant to be, then it will happen.
ANd what went on between him and Mariya, she would never know until he point blank tells the whole class.
Its hard to believe what was real or not in their present situation.

Mirai rubbed her temples and groaned feeling a little stressed.
The last bell rang and everyone started to get up.
She kept her things and walked out with the rest of the class, feeling that a headache was coming her way. She stopped to rub her forehead again.
"Are you all right?"

She looks at Ryosuke and nods, "yes, just a little headache" she muttered.
He pauses. "You seem a little off lately"
Shida stares at him and gives him a forced smile. 'If you only knew, Ryosuke. I have words I want to say, but I cannot hurt you. I cannot speculate just because of some rumour' she thought.

"I just finished filming the other day and my head is still in between" she lied instead.
Ryosuke pats her arm gently. "Take care of yourself" then he takes off with his friends.

"Don't we all need that..." she whispers and makes her way home.
Thunder began to make its noise in the horizon making Mirai flinched. She took out her umbrella and droplets of rain began to fall. As she near a small park she found a boy kneeling near a bush with a fancy looking camera in his hands, trying to take a picture of a flower admist the rain.

"Hey, do that later" she couldn't help but call his attention.
Her voice seem to startle him, making him look up at her.
They stare at each other and a smile broke from Mirai's face. "Kanata Hongo"

He has always been interested with photographs.

It always caused a wonder to him on how one single picture could reflect a thousand words.
With the money he saved from work, he bought himself a DSLR, proceeded to take a college course in a prestigous university and well very much followed what he wanted.
And this particular park, which was just a block away from his home was a perfect spot to practice what he was learning in school. Plus it wasn't crowded.

"Its not healthy to take pictures in the rain" Mirai tells him as they stood inside a little shed in the park.
He chuckled softly, "its a surprise to see you here"

"Likewise" she glances at him. "ITs been a long time, don't you think?"
"Ah" he nods, smiling crookedly. "I've enjoyed photography and am studying it"

She clasped her hands together, "that is awesome, I always admire people who pursue a degree in college"
"You'll get there soon" Hongo replies, "but highschool is quite fun. Its a different in the university"

A faraway look entered Mirai's eyes. "It has its ups and downs" the first thing that entered her mind was the image of Ryosuke again.
Hongo could feel the strain in her voice and caught a glimpse of her face.
SHe was still has pretty as ever, only that instead of a smile her lips were pressed tightly together and she looked troubled.
He decided to change the subject and talked about something else.

And with so many things to talk about, an hour had gone by.
"I had so much fun talking to you" she laughed as they were about to part ways.
He smiled warmly, "you looked really down earlier, don't think so much" he patted her head and left.

Mirai was quite surprised  feel a bitter thump in her heart as she watched the tall and slender Kanata Hongo disappear from her sight.
It was a feeling like no other.
A feeling like there was something missing.

Days had gone by, Mirai found Hongo by the park almost every other day.
There was one time she just stood afar, watching him do his business as he tinkered with his camera.
And it was always amusing to watch him since he looked rather young to be a college student. Hongo still retained that handsome boyish next door look.

"Do you think this is good?" he would ask occassionally, showing her the pictures he had took.
"That one is nice, it looks almost surreal!" she would compliment, he truly had a talent for it.
He chuckled, "good choice, I think you have an eye for things"

She nodded and offered him a snack. They watched a group of children walking by from school talking noisily.
"Sometimes I wish I had a life as carefree as that" she said wistfully. "YOu know without anyone expecting from you to be this kind of person or assuming that you have to be this way. ITs a little frustrating sometimes to think of it..."she began to say.
Quietly Hongo listened to her just nodding at her very word.
To her he felt like a soothing presence, like the warmth of the sun on a winter day. Or like the cool wind on a summer night. Like he was barely there but enough to know that his presence was made visible.
"I'm talking gibberish again, I'm sorry" she apologized after a long while.
Hongo shook his head, "no worries, its good to let out all those feelings rather having them bottled up inside of you, but you got me curious..." he glanced at her in concern. "Is there anything wrong in school?"

Mirai met his gaze and bit her lip. "I don't know if your the time who reads gossip..." she began to say but her voice faded when Ryosuke's face came into view.
There was this strange bittersweet feeling to it.

"No" she whispered and shook her head oblivious that Hongo was looking at her with wonder.
"Mirai?" he called her name ever so softly.
She blinks back and sees Hongo's face this time, that was filled with concern. "Maybe its time for you to go home"  he stood up. "Whatever is bothering you, I hope you sort it out. I'm sorry if I'm not much help" the he smiled very weakly. "The Shida Mirai I know is always filled with cheerfulness"
Once again she watched him leave first, his slender figure disappearing in the horizon.
Mirai pinched her cheeks feeling a little embarrassed and uneasy in the same time. It was quite a surprise to her that she could find herself easily talking to Hongo about things, when it fact that sometomes she felt they were worlds apart.
They may be in the same industry but they were worlds apart.

Hongo's world in Mirai's point of view was more subtle and calm.
Her current world was filled with conflict.

She touched her chest and felt the steady beating of her heart.
At this point, she found herself totally lost.
Unable to face Ryosuke or Hongo.

That evening after nearly two hours of studying, Hongo leaned back and rubbed his temples.
He grab the glass of milk his mother had left in dresser and drank it all up. He paused and remember what Mirai had told him earlier, and how strange she was acting.

He opened his computer and began to search the net.
After awhile he found what he was looking for and sighed.

At that moment he couldn't blame why Mirai was acting that way.
Being thrown into such situation, right into a love triangle.
He wondered if there was any truth in it?
But whatever it is, it was enough to cause much stress in all parties.

Yet he could tell Mirai was the most stressed of all. He wondered if there was anything he could do to her.
He couldn't just sit there and watched her in mess.
Hongo grab his phone and stopped. He wanted to call her, but realized he didn't have her number.
Why would he have her number? They only worked together once and that was that.
But to see her feeling all down was making him worried.
He climb into his bed and shut his eyes, like Mirai he felt completely lost.

A week after they crossed paths again. He didn't have his camera with him and apparently he looked like that he came from the university.

Mirai still found it hard to imagine him as a university student. He still looked so young.
"Hey" she greeted.
"Mirai, you should let it go" he went straight to the point.
"Eh?"
"I do not know how it feels to be in your shoes, but I cannot continue watching you struggling with your emotions" he said quickly, "you share the same class with him" he didn't have to mention his name for her to know who it is.
"..unless you still keep believing that you have to meet people's expectations, you can never be free. He will continue to haunt your soul..." his expression hardened. "Unless.." he repeated the word again and this time Mirai saw the bitterness in his eyes.
"..perhaps there is more to that feeling"

He couldn't say it those words. He didn't know why it was so hard to even utter it.
For a brief moment they were staring at each other like lost kids, unable to do anything.
He was about to mutter an excuse to leave when she broke the silence first. "Maybe your right"
Hongo swallowed hard, right about what? Her words had a dozen meaning to it.
A smile appeared in her face and she seemed relatively calm. "Thank you" she extended her hand.

Hongo blinked back, was this goodbye?
Will it take another year or so for them to meet?
it didn't mattered, he shook her hand and smiled weakly back at her. Then once again they parted ways, he felt empty and she felt determined.

"Hey Ryosuke" she greeted normally, not to stir anyone's attention.
"Oh hi, what's up?" they were cleaning the yard.
"About her leaving.." she gathered all her courage, she hated to talk about that topic but things will never be set right unless she does it. "..and people expecting me..or us.. or.. " she swallowed hard, "saying I've won the game.."
"Mirai" he stopped what he was doing, "what are you talking about?"

"The rumours" she whispered, "its weighting me down, I'm not suppose to be part of it because you and I..."
His features changed, he looked at her in dismay. "I'm sorry its just that she and I are----" he was about to say it when she stopped him half-way.
"He was right, perhaps it was my feelings" she said quietly, "peer pressure led me to feel this way for you but in the end.."

'In the end, perhaps it was true' Shida thought, 'perhaps I did love you but now...' that missing piece, she finally found it.
She smiled, "I feel better now after talking to you" she left him happily as she realized something.

Ryosuke blinked back. 'But you won, Mirai... because you are still here beside me'
It was a little late for that now, for she had someone waiting for her.

They met again, it was like they were expecting each other's presence.
Hongo smiled shyly, like he always did and she smiled happily and gave him a warm slap in the arm.
"Can I be your critique?" she pointed at his camera.
"I welcome all comments and suggestions" he said. "You seem all better now" he added seeing that bright look in her pretty face.

"Because" she said as they sat side by side in the park's bench. "I have found what I have been looking for"
"A missing piece?" he blurted out.
"Ah, and he is sitting right beside me" she closed her eyes to feel the cool wind around them.
The color rose in his cheeks and quietly he felt happy finally understanding his own feelings for her.

"Ah, me too" he whispered.
Their eyes met and they laughed quietly, almost too shyly.
After all, others say that sometimes people go to lengths... searching for something... and all along, what they have been searching for, was right beside them...
Quietly and patiently waiting for them.
