I don't like to be praised, and I'm usually skeptical of thank-you notes at least prima facie. But perhaps the author who wrote this was genuine. I've helped her (including her predecessors, and now it seems, I'll be helping the next guy once she goes for further studies) on a number of occassions for the Moot Parliament Project that's been going on for years, and the text itself is rather heart warming, and it accompanied an original Mariann Johansen-Ellis print that came in the mail today (I suspect, purchased from the Dempsey Road gallery since it came through internal mail, which means she's still somewhere in the Organisation).
Nice text reads as follows:Dear D,
Thank you truly for the numerous occassions that you came to the rescue. Would never have survived MPP without your help, support and advice. Thank you.
I hope you like the 'tree' etching I've chosen for you cause it represents to me strength, life/vibrance which are things you represented for me.
Thank you cos I really feel very blessed for your support for MPP
OK, stop the music.
Previous appreciation gifts were usually corporate gifts, though once a couple of ladies (who were standing in for her) got me Darjeeling Tea from Fortnum & Mason. Nice! Other times, it was a Borders voucher card, or such like.
Hmm. Tree.
Given my line of work, trees are (so far) good for only one thing - generating
widowmakers.
Hmm.
