Lucy up closeOriginally uploaded by
damaged_katI came home early Sunday morning to find my angel, Lucy-cat, lying on the floor paralyzed. My roommate's girlfriend was there and I know for sure that if Odie-dog had attacked her, or if it had happened while Angela was around, I would have gotten a phone call immediately.
Regardless, I scooped her up into a towel and took her to the Vet hospital that fortunately is only 1 mile from my house. She mewed at first, but part way through the drive she went silent. I tried to call my best friend
dmbcorley, although I knew it was 2am in California, thinking Lucy had passed, I continued onto the Vet's office in tears.
On the way there, I called the hospital, and the vet tech had a room open and ready for me when I got there. The Vet came in performed a few tests, and told me that he suspected she was having heart failure, a clot broke free and entered her blood stream, where it lodged and caused paralysis. There was nothing I could do at that point then to let her go.
I was in the room when she passed and my heart felt as cold as ice. I cried until the tears stopped forming and made my way home. Nikki-cat cried the rest of the night looking for her sister. (They were littermates.) Eventually after texting a few people, I took my sleeping pills and slept until 1pm that afternoon.
I am still in shock and am very numb. I know I need to cry and grieve but the tears won't come. I always knew Lucy would be the first to go, but even after 14, almost 15 years, I wasn't ready for this pain.
I love you my angel-cat. Lucy Lou....
