The Commoner by John Burnham Schwartz

Long and short -- I didn't like the book. The one listed by Ben Hills on wiki looks better -- maybe I'll check it out. I'd heard of the case brought up in my Japanese linguistics class, interestingly enough, in like the first or second year at UH.

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See

I've slowly been reading more and more of her work. For a long time, because I already knew what nu shu was (I read about it in a sociolinguistic journal at UH), I avoided this book. After reading it, though, I feel a bit more at ease with some parts of myself. I don't feel that there's much else I need to say about the book, or even a glowing review. If someone is interested in it, they'll read it.

Oozukami Monogatari: Maro, n? by Koizumi Yoshihiro (Jpn)

I first bought this book over three years ago. It's taken me that long to finally go through it. It's a cute 8-coma thingy of each tale, to put it simply, with explanations here and there. I like the illustrations particularly, since I cannot imagine this being drawn without realism in mind (studying this is hard work, so realism is a great feature).
