Yesterday I started working at JEAA's English Summer Program at MusashinoHigashi Chu-gakkou. I'm an assistant teacher fro first and second graders. Its been fun, tiring, and stretching. Tiring and stretching because there's one boy in the class who gets pretty violent when he's tired and mad, and because there's another boy who has a pretty severe learning disability, whom i have to watch and keep from getting into trouble while watching the whole class. But fun because, other than that, the kids have been great, because i get to learn a lot with the kids as they move from music class, to tap dancing class, to ceramics, to art, to English (one girl, a daughter of an Australian teacher taught the kids about animals in Australia today...everytime i talk to her, I end up picking up her accent) to seeing an aborigininy (sp!?) dance (he'll be teaching art and dance next week!!), to doing sports with an over enthusiastic gym teacher (haha...suprise suprise!), oh, and cooking too!! (taught by a jamacan man who lived in the same neighborhood in dorchester (how small can this world be!?))
yup, its been fun...crazy, tiring kind of fun...loosing weight and voice kind of fun...its good. life is...

today, after the school day, I went to Okutama to see Chris, Ju-Ju and my mom perform a concert at OBC, on the train, I met a sweet girl who is also studying sociology, and is a Christian...how the conversation came about? me offering a seat to an elderly lady who had to hold this spoiled 4 year old so that he could see out the window...the woman refused, telling me how stubborn her son was, how he wanted to see out the window (we were in the front of the train) and again, of how her arms ached...I sat down, and the girl next to me said "yasashiin desune"...and there our adventrues began. she has my email addy. we'll see what comes out of it.

saw a sight on the train today i wont forget for a while. there was a big bettle flying around, and of course, girls screaming. it landed on a girl who was sitting down nest to a drunk man, who saved her by catching it... "kore dousuirebaiino?...tsubusunokawaisoudakara...hankachi ni iretoku" (he p8ulls out his handkerchief, folds it around the bug so that it cant escape, and sticks it in his pocket...as if he does this every day...) "ienikaittara hanashiteageru.."
sometimes, only sometimes, i like drunk old men who are red int thier face, for the fact that they can make a whole car laguh.
