Sometimes I want to be a greedy capitalist. Honestly. But when the republicans say something like this:
"Further analysis of the Pell Grant provision in this bill states that although the total funding is roughly $14 billion, the per grant increase is only $500. One would be hard-pressed to purchase text books for an entire year for $500. There doesn't seem to be much bang for the tax payers' buck here."
I cringe. Last semester I recieved a rebate in excess of $1000 for my financial aid. That is money I was awarded but didn't use. True enough that extra $500 wouldn't by textbooks for a year. But combined with all my other aid it will buy textbooks, supplies and give me a savings to rinse and repeat in the summer semester since aid DOES NOT COVER SUMMER IF YOU ARE A FULL TIME STUDENT! And lets not even start when I move to a 4yr and have to deal with all of those expenses (I am seriousl considering applying as an on campus student) and making up for my math and science deficencies (horray for physics) over the summer. Please please think before you boil things down.
