2007 interview with Narumi Riko
TL: What have become of the island after 2 years?
Narumi: Everyone welcomed me warmly with a “Tadaima!” (Which means welcome home). It really feels like I am coming home, and I am happy about that.
Kamiki: Although this is the first time I went to the island, I was very touched as the people in the island were very kind. It’s a very nice place, as there is a lot of nature scenery and the air is fresh.
Narumi: This time, although there are scenes which we have to submerge inside the seawater, the underwater world was very beautiful.
Kamiki: Yes yes! I cannot imagine such a beautiful place exist in this world! But, as expected, I was very excited about the split second which I jumped from the cliff into the sea.
Narumi: Although we were very calm before the shooting, the moment we stood on the cliff, we got excited and nervous.
Kamiki: We shouted: “One, Two!” together loudly, and jumped into the sea together. Haha.
Narumi: It feels like a sports festival, haha. I kind of have a sense of fulfillment, and because of that I feel that it somehow brings us closer together.
TL: So were you able to get into the role without any difficulties?
Narumi: Yes. Even after the filming finished, I am still unable to forget about Ruri, the character I played in. Actually, I hope to come to the island again, and I was able to have a lot of memories.
Kamiki: The character that I acted in, Shion, is a kid who has a very complicated relationship with his father, and thus he is unable to open his heart fully. In spite of that, I think I have to understand the role well in order to play that role well.
Narumi: Ruri (The character I am acting as), too, because of the problems arising from the island, started to revolt against Yuzou (Ogata Ken). Because of that, Ruri, too, have the same problem as Shion.
Kamiki: Shion definitely likes Ruri. After meeting Ruri, he became unable to restrain the feelings which he have been trying to hold back, and for the first time, revolt against his father.
Narumi: I would like to everyone to see what will happen to Ruri and Shiori in the end, and how will they grow up. The part about them understanding each other is very interesting, so please look forward to it!
Kamiki: I think this island definitely has the power to allow people to grow up and mature. It’s a very heart-warming drama, and I think it’s a drama which you can feel a lot of love inside.
