RECAP: Heroes Ep. 3x04: I Am Become Death

Oct 10, 2008 11:23

(**NOTE: I actually posted this in response to moogleybacon 's Heroes commentary the other day but then decided to use it for a recap here. Enjoy!)

So how many of my fellow Heroes fanatics out there are totally psyched by Season 3 so far? Sylar is Peter's what?!?! Sylar as Susy Homemaker? OMFG LOLZ!! Claire teaches Peter a thing or two about knives?! And where in the world is Parkman? Meh. Who cares? Have Hiro bring back uberlicious Adam Monroe and make it snappy! I haven't got all eternity! Ya dig? Heh.

**WARNING: Spoiler alert! Spoilers ahead! Proceed at your own risk!**

On to zee recap!

In which our favorite villain cuts Mini-Me's waffles...

AHHHHHHHH! OMGYAY! FUTURE SYLAR *coughs* excuse me, GABRIEL HAS A SON?!?!?! How the eff did that happen? Okay, okay, I know how it happens but what I want to know is when, where, why, and WITH WHOM?!?! What superheroine in her right mind would let Sylar hit it? Even Niki wouldn't have been that suicidal and she had MPD!!

A lot of fanchatter on the boards suggests it's Claire's kid. Um, no. Why? Because Sylar named the boy Noah? I think that just foreshadows what Noah's influence over Sylar will be like in the future/past/present, er... Yeah. You get my meaning. Besides, Claire is Sylar's NIECE!! I doubt NBC would do anything that taboo. Picturing Zach Quinto with Hayden Pentatroll is just wrong on so many levels anyway. Wrong. Ew. *Shivers*

Plus, Sylar already had Claire alone and helpless rooting around her brain like a chocoholic going after a Junior Mint. He never once showed any sexual inclination toward her in that moment. In fact, his demeanor was calm, almost clinical.

Some have suggested maybe Elle is the Goose that laid the Golden Egg Renesmee Mutant Baby. I like that idea much better. Ellie is the only one besides Peter who's been able to take Sylar on mano-a-mano and survive. Or it could be Niki/Tracy's sister Barbara. Her life and powers haven't been revealed yet.

One thing that disappointed me was the fact that Little Noah didn't seem to have any powers of his own. I mean for Jebus sake! He's the son of one the most powerful villains on the series! Something HAD to be passed along in his DNA! There was absolutely nothing he could do to defend himself against Knox?!?! Really? I realize he was very young but still...

Other observations...
  1. Future Peter being killed by Future Claire really didn't jive well with me. I can't imagine what could have possibly happened between them to make the Claire we all know and love such a cold-hearted psychobitch killer. She even threatens Sylar's kid! Totally OOC! Plus, Hayden playing it bull-dyke chic was less believable and far more laughable squee for me. What's with the change in hair color, BTW? When she's good, she's a blond; when she's bad, she's a brunette? WTFisthataboutNBC?! Cliché much?

  2. The dialogue between Present Nathan and Future Peter really weirds me out. I mean, what is up with Nathan acting like Future Peter isn't his brother? "Where's my brother? What did you do with my brother? I want my brother! SHOW ME MY BROTHER! WAAAAH!" Um, hellooo, dumbass? He's STILL your brother! Just a future incarnation of him. The blood relation is the same. That doesn't miraculously change in the future, ya know. *Shakeshead*

  3. Everyone's commenting on the whole Jeff Goldblum/The Fly parallel with Mohinder Suresh. I admit, I originally thought that too but after this episode I firmly believe now that Mo's becoming a cockroach. Don't laugh! Hear me out here. He scuttled across the floor like one when Future Peter was present, avoids bright light/is light sensitive (cockroaches prefer dark places), has super strength (cockroaches can lift 20x their own weight), is able to crawl up walls, and is growing some kind of carapace on his skin. Plus, he's very fascinated with cockroaches. Remember the whole spiel/lecture he gave about how they could survive a nuclear blast during the pilot episode way back in Season 1? He said the cockroach has reached the pinnacle of the evolutionary ladder. He even likened it to God! Turning into one would be kind of symbolic for him.

QUESTION: Why didn't Mo bust that guy's head like a melon when he punched him? We've already established he can now toss ordinary humans like crumpled Dixie cups. Shouldn't a direct hit to the face make Douchebag's head explode or something? Did  I miss something here?

  4. I loved Nathan and Tracy hooking up! The whole swooping in to save her as she fell was such a Lois & Clark moment! The fangurl in me went all batshit squee. LOL If Tracy hadn't kissed him at that moment I would've found some way to crawl through the TV screen and do it myself!! "Your hands aren't even cold." Hahahaha! Better hope she never gets mad at you during foreplay, Nate! She'll give new meaning to the term blue balls! XD

  5. I really don't get the whole Linderman BS. It better be good when it's finally revealed because right now it's just distracting and confusing me. The only thing I can think of is that Linderman somehow absorbed D.L.'s ability when D.L. phased him in the back of the head. That would account for him being in Nate's head. Or would it? *rubs temples* See I'm giving myself a headache already! LOL I still think Future Peter has something to do with it. He was the only one to touch Nathan after he died. Nate awoke immediately after this. Linderman wasn't there.

  6. Sylar as Susy Homemaker?!?! OMG LOLZ!!! I LOOOOOOVED every minute of it!!! Made me lust for Zach Quinto even more! And the way he behaved with little Noah, cutting his waffles for him, telling him to hide, etc. Even warning Peter about "The Hunger" and trying to proetect him from it. That was equal parts humanizing and surprising. Shame the kid had to kick the bucket tho :-( Wonder if we'll ever find out who the mama is?

  7. I loved Sylar going ballistic but I was a little disappointed in the way he beat Knox down. All the powers he has and that's the best/most creative he could do/be?!?! What happened to slicing through heads with his finger like a can opener, man? You're telling me he wouldn't have assimilated Knox's power [read: fear]? Call me crazy (really, I probably deserve it) but I'd think that would be the one power an evil genius would find invaluable. (If you're going to go off the wagon, miles will do it all the way! The old Sylar would've found that wasteful.) Then again, Future Sy's reaction DOES humanize him more. He wasn't thinking rationally, he was reacting like a devastated father lashing out at the monster that'd just killed his son.

Oh and the kid wouldn't be dead if he was Claire's son and had his mother's abilities. Sylar said very clearly that Knox killed him right before he went all 4th of July on everyone. Plus, Claire showed absolutely no motherly interest in the kid other than to use him as a weapon against Sylar. So yeah, not Claire's boy.

  8. Hiro cracks me up every time he's on-screen! You'd think after two seasons his altruistic way of looking at things would grow old but Masi Oka always finds a way to make it believable still. I can't wait to see Hero reunited with Adam. Those two play off each other brilliantly. (Still in love with David Anders from his Julian Sark days on Alias. SARK: "Did it have to be so filthy? I mean, really, if Rambaldi can prophesize the future, he might have advised me not to wear $500 shoes." Om nom nom! *Licks fingers*)

  9. Peter killing Nathan was shiver worthy for me. I just sat there, mouth hanging wide open, trying to shove my eyes back into my head. OMGWTF?!?! Is Peter going to become a villain? Are he and Sylar going to have a smackdown of epic proportions now? Did a blood vessel just burst in my brain? ARGHHH!!

  10. Maya annoys the shit out of me. Seriously. She's such a whiny little victim. Blah, blah, blah, Evil Eye, blah, blah, blah. Cry, sniffle, cry! Hasn't this chick ever heard of Visine?! Why have the producers kept her character on the show this long? What purpose does she serve besides contributing to Mo's transformation into La Cucaracha Grande by browbeating him to death? (Hmm, La Cucaracha Grande... Sounds like a luchador to me! Watch out Nacho Libre! Mo's taking you dooown!)

BTW, did you notice Maya's accent all but vanished around the same time her bra did? LOLhoor! Her cooch is evidently tied somehow to her mouth. Now that's an interesting ability to have! *G*

  11. Matt's spirit guide being a turtle made me spit chocolate milk through my noise but his storyline bores me to TEARS!! He and Daphne hooking up? In what alternate universe? And why hasn't Future Molly grown more? It's 4 years into the future and she still looks 9 or 10?? The only time I like Matt is when he's with Molly. Otherwise I just want to slap the prick off his face and call it a day.
My fave scene?

SPEEDSTER DAPHNE: "I wasn't fast enough." *Diiiiiieee* Hahahaha!! Yeah, um... That would be a no, huh? XD

How'd we manage the entire summer without this show? :-)
