I saw Third Eye Blind last night! they played an after-game concert at Citi Field. There really is something great about re-living the music from your high school years. I couldn't go to concerts until I was in college (and broke), so enjoying it as an adult is pretty awesome. About half the game crowd stayed for the concert, a mix of 3eb fans around my age and Mets fans who were curious to see what the fuss was about.
They were amazing live! Apparently Stephan Jenkins hasn't aged (or gotten any less sexy!) since the 90s. My section had a bunch of 30ish girls in front and behind me and my sister, so it was a lively group. We all danced in the stands and sang along, and had a great time. It's always nice to be in a good, energetic crowd. I did feel kinda bad for the couple next to us, who were googling the band and were just baffled by the fact that they were surrounded by dozens of women squealing over a band that they'd never heard of before.
They did a good mix of songs, taking requests from the pit in front of the stage. "Graduate," "Never Let You Go," "Wounded," "Danger," "Crystal Baller," "Jumper," "How's it Going to Be," and finishing off (of course!) with "Semi-Charmed Life," which had the whole crowd singing along.
My sister and I got to bond over rock music, and I got nostalgic and told her about the Old Days, when I taped their songs off the radio, and kept MTV on for hours to see their music videos when they came out. I told her about one of my favorite songs, "Tattoo of the Sun," which was the B-side to "Semi-Charmed Life." I then had to explain to her about cassette tapes, and what a B-side was. She talked about how much she liked Coldplay and Bon Jovi. Now that she's a senior and almost 18, we can go to concerts together with slightly less parental wrath, so I'll take her along for the next ones I go to.
Good times.
