My approval for my permanent (more-or-less) residence card came through yesterday. This, after a couple of screw-ups by the Immigratiedienst: I sent them one form, they claimed I'd sent in another. Luckily I had copies of everything (4-page form, approx 13 pages of documentation). It was coming down to the wire, since my current card expires in early March, along with my U.S. passport (for which I still have to make an appointment at the Consulate).

We got another sign of how well Kirsten has us "trained". I took her to daycare Thursday afternoon. As I was getting her out of her coat, scarf, etc, I saw another little boy having a tantrum about having to leave. As part of his tantrum, or so I thought, he angrily threw his coat on the floor. I waited for his mother to tell him to pick it up. But no, before I could blink, he'd bent over, thrust his arms into the sleeves, and flipped the coat over his head. He then quickly adjusted the shoulders and started to zip it up. I'd never seen anything like it and said something to that effect. The daycare supervisor looked at me and said that all the kids could do that. It took a moment for that to sink in-- and I then asked, "Even Kirsten?" The supervisor stared at me in astonishment-- "Yes, for several months now." Pause. "You really didn't know?"
I looked over at Kirsten, shook my head, and said, "Nope, she really has us pretty well trained, doesn't she?"
I made sure that Kirsten showed Kees and Ma. The gig is up-- she puts her coat on by herself from now on.
