Summary: There comes a day when you have to forget everything you ever knew about yourself and start over.
Author's Note: Inspired by randomly hearing
this on my MP3 player last night, and then getting it stuck in my head. My brain-Gojyo's turned into such a romantic and squishy person... XD;;;;
It hit me, just out of the blue. And for the stupidest reason. But...as always, it was thanks to you. We were stopped by a lake, and the sound of one of Sanzo's angry gunshots sent a pair of swans racing off towards the opposite shore, their feet thrashing in the water and their wings beating hard until they all took off in a flurry of noise. Goku stared like he always does when there are birds involved, watching avidly while I just lit up a smoke, not particularly interested.
'Hakkai,' he asks, all bright eyed and bouncy like he always goddamned is, 'how come they take so long to get into the air?'
'Because,' you say in return, smiling as you watched the two white birds finally launch themselves into the air, their movements turning graceful, 'they're heavier than most water birds, so they need to build up speed to get aloft. They have to take a running start at breaking away from the water.'
Then...well, I got to thinking. Something about this damned trip makes me think too much.
A running start to get away...sounds like us, huh? Every day that I spend thinking more about what'll happen next and less about what's already gone on, it feels like another step towards breaking away from everything I was. And you seem to be changing too...giving up those fake smiles that I've always hated seeing you pull out and actually being with me, talking to me...
As soon as we're alone, I can't help but put my arms around you and hold you close, looking for the words to tell you that you've changed everything. That you're the reason I can finally leave the past behind.
All I can offer is 'I love you.'
