Black Crowes Pozo

We managed to walk in the gate at the Pozo Saloon about 5min before the Black Crowes started. One of my least favorite things in the world is waiting around for bands to start (despite the fact that my ass lags when its my band that needs to start) so this was a splendid turn of events. We got over to the beer garden and didn't have to wait very long to get a few drinks which were reasonably priced and sized much to my amazement. $5 for a 20oz cup of Fat Tire would be a good deal at any bar downtown much less at a frickin concert in Pozo.

Despite a weeks worth of lousy weather (rain, overcast, grumpy clouds etc etc) it was bright and beautiful today. The venue is an outdoor theatre surrounded by hills so the scenery was nice and cozy. Much like the Greek theatre in Berkley or the Santa Barbara Bowl it was lush and green in the areas surrounding the venue, instead of a barren and boring desert.

There was no opening band and the Crowes kicked right into their set. They are an amazingly tight band and when they were actually playing songs and not just jamming they were on fire. Their keyboard player had an actual Hammond B3 which means nothing to you but its a really cool organ. And the backup singers sounded like a damn choir, very nice.

They played a solid three hour set and were managed to get in the car and on the road in less then 20min of the end of their set. Not bad for an outdoor show with that number of people.
