Apple tasting is over! The weather over the weekend was sunny and beautiful, and the nursery was flooded with people. After working 4 busy days straight, it's a relief to stay
I enjoyed being back at the nursery a lot, reconnecting with old co-workers and meeting a lot of new people. There were a lot of people that I really enjoyed working with, and a few I expect to maintain contact with.
Took home two big bags (maybe 40 lbs?) of my favorites home today; here's a list of the apples and pears I liked best after two weekends of constant slicing:
Apples:
Spitzenberg - crisy, juicy, and tart--but sweet enough to be a really good eating apple
Gourmet Golden - the sweetest golden apple you'll ever taste!
Rubinette and Gravenstien - delicious if you can get them fresh off the tree, but tend to get soft if left on the shelf too long
Beni Shogun Fuji, Mutsu - the Japanese just know how to do apples
Pears:
Magness - there's something about this pear... it almost tastes like the "juicy pear" jelly belly or something.
20th Century - hard to go wrong with these
Work
V got the rights for my next project... it's a project I'm super excited to do. They've ordered the books for me from amazon so I can start as soon as I get them.
My next DH project should be coming around the bend soon, too.
And I have to begin prepping soon for my next SD assignment. The topic is North East Asian Security. Ay-yi-yi....
Other Projects
-Planting my veggies, mulching with more wood chips, and other garden projects.
-Painting our bedroom wall?
-Getting the shelves made for the nook
-Getting dekoboko rolling again
-Arranging for a free energy audit to help us begin thinking about green improvements for the house
-Filing and organizing in office
Chumley Report
Chumley is eating well, but is still so terrified. I've taken him out a bit every day, but he's so frightened when I do that it's heartwrenching. When I hold him, he trembles and convulses with fright, and when I put him down to get some exercise, all he wants to do is cower in a corner.
Since he will have to live with people, I know he'll be happier if he can learn not to be petrified of us, but I feel terrible putting him through such stress.
I think we'll just have to take it super super slow; now that I'm done working at the nursery, I can spend more quiet time at home, reading and translating. Jessica leant me a baby sling, and I'll just hold Chumley in it as I work, wrapped up so he doesn't feel exposed and vulnerable, and acclimate him to my scent and movements. I'll talk to him and hand feed him treats like egg, apple and slugs, and just give him his kibble, puppy milk, and veggies in his box.
