Sorry to say, but the driver does have blame in this! Only seeing as he left the scene and knowing his best friend is there and then not telling ANYONE until hours later...BUT my big issue and where I put a big part of the blame is to emergency personnel. I mean most times when a rollover has happens, the chance that someone has been ejected from the vehicle is pretty high. SOOO, my question is why didn't they scour the area to EVEN SEE if there was someone/something around. Just because there was no one inside the vehicle doesn't mean that no one is there. My first thought would be that the person or people have been ejected from the car. POINT BLANK...THAT SCENE SHOULD HAVE BEEN THOROUGHLY SEARCHED BEFORE THE EMERGENCY PERSONNEL LEFT THE SCENE!!! 100 feet is really not that far to search and with all their lights, tools, and such...they might have found him in the first place.
Now to top things off our SOG (think SOP) says a member can not reply to such comments or disclose any information about the incident on pain of being kicked out of the department. So we can't even say that we did as complete a search of the area as possible. I'm not going to loss sleep over it but it still smarts when someone makes it sound like you were completely incompetent.
