Apartment and health

One thing about my housing stress lately is that I have become closer to my neighbors. On my way to Roosevelt Plaza last night to pick up something for supper I stopped to chat with Vi and another neighbor Rh and many others who just stopped for a moment. I had a nice time and stayed much longer than I intended :-).

We have hot water again as of last night, but the gas line testing found multiple leaks throughout the building and no one has heat or a working stove, and it might be Tuesday or later before they are turned on again...if that. Many people stopped by our group and the talk is to approach the managing company for a break on the rent. I am really missing my stove. If I had a microwave maybe I would feel differently, but I don't have another way to cook or even heat water for tea.

Another item is that the apartment manager stormed over to the apartment of the tenant whose husband posted the blog item I linked and was so abusive that the poor woman ended up calling the police to intervene. Vi thinks she was cited for harassment over that, but I have not confirmed. I have suspected since the beginning that the apartment manager might be guilty of housing discrimination and it seems they might have reported her for that too. You don't mess with people of conscience and this family strikes me as one.

People are really coming together and things feel like they are changing. I'm glad this is happening before we leave.
