Really early FF14 impressions and allergies.

Managed to get my FF14 character onto the Mysidia server. So I now have Cydori Silvertide, Midlander F Lancer, home city Limsa Lominsa. I've taken to calling her "Little Cydori" to distinguish her from her FFXI and Rock Band counterparts, partly because she looks younger and partly because she's all level 1 and cute and newbie-ish. Hopefully not ( Read more... )

I think FFXIV looked sort of interesting. :)

The only issues for me are the XP Fatigue thing -- is that still in place? And the fact I'm not sure I have the time or energy to devote to it.

It is definitely very pretty though. =^.^=

I think if they do, it's been seriously altered from what people were having problems with. It'll probably never be an issue for me given I doubt I'll ever be grinding.

That struck me as an absolutely insane thing to do to your players. :)

Did they ever say why they wanted to limit people's ability to grind XP? That seems counter to most gaming philosophy.

Myself, I tend to do things in spurts, so grinding XP for me is a very real method to use. Then I'll do something else for a couple weeks, or longer.

To be honest, I haven't researched the mechanics of it very well.

More on it.

So it sounds like it limits grinding on a single job and forces people to diversify. It doesn't cap your physical level xp, just your job xp. Also, this is from the beta, so I don't know what refinements have been made since.

It works well for someone like me, who sticks in a few hours here and there. It wouldn't work so well for you.

Also, it sounds like the xp system is more like Guild Wars (and WoW?) where you get a fair amount just by questing and don't have to go out into the wilds and grind so much.

Huh. Okay, that explanation is definitely interesting.

So instead of raw power, which is hard capped XP wise, you can focus on your various other disciplines and diversify your abilities, thus broadening your capabilities since you can mix & match.

That's actually quite an interesting approach. Thanks for researching it. :)

That is pretty fantastic. I admit I had reservations about the system at first, but after watching the video (and after thinking about the several hours I'll need later to level my drk from 75-85 in FFXI... oi...), I'm starting to think the system's a good one overall.

Thanks for the video, that seems like a neat way of doing it. As a non-MMORPG player I'm probably still more a fan of the Guild Wars system that just deals with this by capping the physical level at a pretty low level. But I suppose that system is less suited to the subscription payment model.
