BSG: Further Ending Thoughts

Mar 31, 2009 10:05

In which something occurs to me a week+ after the fact:

So, the whole deal with the Arrow of Apollo back in the second season was to try and figure out how to get to Earth. The Cylon tribe's Earth, not our Earth. And the "map" was the twelve constellations of the zodiac that the Twelve Colonies were named after. And then I think they totally forgot the idea by the time they got to the third season.

But what this means is that somehow or another those twelve names ended up in the collective consciousness of humanity (or whatever) and on our Earth, we just happened to find twelve constellations that fit those names. And on a related note, the Greeks just happened to name their gods the same as the Lords of Kobol. (Although maybe Kara Thrace came back to help with that?) And the Romans picked up Jupiter from somewhere.

So... gah. The theory that everyone in the Twelve/Thirteen Colonies came from our Earth long ago makes all this make a lot more sense. Or having them arrive at our Earth during the time of the Ancient Greeks, which was another theory I had for a while.

I guess the whole "All Along the Watchtower" thing was meant to show that some things just end up in humanity's collective whatever and surface from time to time. So the constellations and the gods shouldn't be that hard to swallow, but... eh.
